Keeping Your Damon® Clear™ Braces Virtually Invisible

It's easy for patients to say that the Damon Clear Braces are not stain free. The key to keeping the beauty and clarity of your Damon Clear braces is by understanding what you can do to maintain virtually invisible.

What are Damon Clear Braces?

Traditional braces require elastic ties to hold wires in place, which can accumulate bacteria, stain or “yellow” during treatment and often require uncomfortable “tightening” that can actually hinder tooth movement and prolong treatment. In contrast, DAMON CLEAR braces resist staining with the innovative DAMON SYSTEM of “tieless” brackets and high-tech memory-shaped wires that eliminate the need for uncomfortable periodic “tightening.” With Damon, the wires move freely within the brackets for better oral hygiene and appearance, as well as fast, comfortable tooth movement.

Do Damon Clear braces stain?

Damon Clear braces do not stain. They are made of sturdy polycrystalline alumina and they are resistant to staining or discoloration.

Two rigorous tests were conducted where 1. Damon Clear brackets were immersed in coffee, mustard and red wine for up to eight weeks and were found to be totally resistant to each staining material.

Even though the brackets themselves will not stain, the adhesive and other materials used to bond them to your teeth may stain. In addition, it is possible for fluids from food or beverages to get trapped in the slide that opens the bracket. Because of the translucency of Damon Clear brackets, if the material used to bond them becomes stained or if fluid gets trapped in the slide, it can appear as if the bracket itself is stained.

Practicing Good Oral Hygiene

In order for you to maintain you braces virtually clear, you should practice good oral hygiene and refrain from consuming certain foods during treatment. We recommend for you to avoid heavy consumption of coffee, red wine or tea, including green tea. Good oral hygiene includes, among other things, brushing your teeth and braces after each meal or snack followed by a thorough rinsing with water or antiseptic dental rinse as well as flossing at least once daily. Although you may use a manual toothbrush, an electric toothbrush is always recommended for a more thorough cleaning. In addition, we recommend the careful use of an interdental brush (proxabrush) under the wires and around the brackets.

The clarity of your Damon Clear Braces will remain throughout treatment as long as you maintain good oral hygiene and avoid any damaging foods.
