Put your thinking caps on...topics for science projects in the dental field

Hey everyone! This is Brennen, one of Dr. Frigo’s Patient Care Managers. A lot of our patients have mentioned that they are working on science projects for upcoming science fairs, so I figured I would write a blog to help you brainstorm some ideas for your projects!

The human mouth has a wide variety of systems that work together and there are various types of projects and experiments that can be done. You may assume that you just use your mouth and teeth to eat and talk, but there are tons of things going on that you may not be aware of that can be scientifically measured.

Have you already picked a topic for your project and started your research, but are unsure of your idea and want to start a new one project? Well you can, even if your project is almost due! There are some experiments that just need simple things like floss or toothpaste and could take as little as one day to research. You can even do an experiment on something as simple as our 30 minute rule! One of our patients, Mary Katherine K. actually chose this for the topic of her project, and with our help, won 1st place at her science fair! How exciting!

There are so many topics to choose from, I am sure you can find a project that is just right for you! There are also projects for those of you who would like to research a more advanced topic. They range from testing the pH level of the mouth to building a model of a tooth from styrofoam to show the different layers and nerves of a tooth.

Again, there are multitudes of dental experiments that can be done. These experiments can also be fun for you and the whole family to be involved in, so find the right one for you and make it fun!

Please feel free to call or email us with any questions!
